Your journey into Košice begins the moment you leave the airport. The drive to the city center is short (about 15 to 20 minutes) but full of quiet charm. It’s a smooth, scenic, and welcoming route—an easy beginning to any pilgrimage, setting a calm and reflective tone even before you arrive in the spiritual and cultural heart of Košice: cobblestone streets, colorful facades, and the soft outline of St. Elisabeth Cathedral rising above the old town.
Your pilgrimage in Košice begins at the St. Elisabeth Cathedral. As the largest Gothic cathedral in Slovakia, it offers a sacred space for prayer, reflection, and thanksgiving. Pilgrims can admire its soaring arches, radiant stained glass, and the peaceful Chapel of St. Charles Borromeo while centering their intentions on Divine Mercy. Just steps from the cathedral stands the Chapel of St. Michael, a beautifully preserved Gothic gem. Departing from Košice after breakfast, your pilgrimage continues with a scenic drive through the Carpathian foothills toward Slovakia. The route leads across rolling countryside and forested valleys, offering peaceful moments of reflection along the way. Soon, you’ll arrive in Litmanová, a small mountain village known for its Marian shrine and atmosphere of deep spiritual devotion. Litmanová holds a special place in Marian pilgrimage as the site of reported apparitions of the Virgin Mary between 1990 and 1995, when she is said to have appeared to two young girls on Zvir Mountain.
Your pilgrimage continues with a visit to the Zvir Mountain Chapel and Shrine, the sacred site of the Marian apparitions in Litmanová. Surrounded by the quiet beauty of the Carpathian Mountains, this holy place invites prayer, reflection, and participation in liturgy. Pilgrims gather here to attend Mass, visit the sacred spring, and experience the profound sense of peace that has made this site a cherished destination for Marian devotion.
Departing from Litmanová, the journey proceeds through the scenic landscapes of northern Slovakia and southern Poland toward Wadowice, the birthplace of Pope Saint John Paul II. Upon arrival, we will visit the Basilica of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, where St. John Paul II was baptized. Time is set aside for prayer and reflection before entering the Family Home of Pope Saint John Paul II, now a museum, offering insight into his early life, faith, and vocation.
